Question: i have an xr2 which im looking to rebuild running twin 40s can you suggest what i should have done to the engine/gearbox to get full potential?
Answer: I'd go for a ZVH conversion if you have the cash! That's the Zetec bottom end with the CVH head. We previously built one of those normally aspirated for a Westfield and it was brilliant, really torquey. It's possible to use the 1.8 or 2 litre Zetec as a base, as long as you can get all the right bits.

Question: hi alan i have a 1971 1800 mgb gt im am restoring slowly, i have just got the thing through a mot, and is on the road. im trying to do all the engine work before it goes in the body shop. i have fitted a set of webber 45\'s which i purchased off ebay (off another mg 1800). the car runs lovely smooth but i think its running a bit rich (very sooty exhaust , which it didnt have before i fitted them). is this something you can tinker with or is my motor just to old hat?? thanks Allan p.s if you can, do i get discount as we have the same name?? (even though you have a L missing!!)
Answer: Hi Alan - I'd love to tune your MGB, I still have a soft spot for them, admitting to working on them when they were new! We still see quite a few actually. As a discerning classic car owner, I'm sure your actual intention would be to offer to pay me more than usual, on the basis that you get what you pay for, and of course, you want the best for your baby! Having said that, I couldn't possibly accept such a fine offer from a fellow enthusiast, so I'd insist upon only being paid the standard amount. Regards Alan

Question: MG Midget 1293 fuel injection? Do you have a kit for me ?
Answer: No, and I can't recommend it! MG Midgets need carburetters, either SUs or A Weber 45DCOE. I used to race these, and you won't get any more power from a Siamese port head by using injection. If you go 8 port, then maybe, in which case you could use Omex with Jenvey throttle bodies.

Question: Hi there Alan you alright? I have a problem on my Honda civic 1996 1.6 SR Vtec, When driving engines warms up the water gets very hot an starts to bubble alot with steam. Temp gauge reaches high goes up an then down suddendly after awhile it will stay on red hot. An also it smokes out blue colour an goes away after a few revs, i have starting up problems the engine judders as if it wants to stop an misfires sometimes. start up problems only accure when engine is very hot only.... i have notices after a few hundred miles of driving engine oil drops alittle also.. Can you help with any advice to how i can maybe resolve this issue? thank you.
Answer: I'm just fine thanks! - Your Honda doesn't sound so good though. If you're having to put water in to top it up, it sounds like a head gasket failure.
