Question: hi,i have got a 1999 uk impreza and have just got some equal length headers!iv bin told i will loose the scooby sound if i fit them?also will it make that much differance power wise?im going to get a decat pipe and already have a nur spec cat back system and hks filter!is their anything else i should do before i get it remapped?
Answer: Hi Dan - they may actually be semi equal length? only the Spec C comes with them, and they sound nothing like a Subaru, but go very well indeed. We use RC/Lateral ones, and they are top notch. The headers won't do a huge amount in the spec you are at, but come into their own when used with a better turbo and a front mount etc.

Question: Thank you for your last reply. With regards to the compression ratio, I know that the standard Peugeot 205 1.9 (D6B) has a compression ratio of 9.6:1, Turbo Technics then lowered this to 8.6:1, my engines compression ratio at this point is 8.25:1. Heres some more info about my engine. It\'s been fully lightened and balanced bottom end inc flywheel and pressure plate down to the bolts, Turbo Technics Machined Pistons, Mi16 Crank, Mi16 Flywheel, Mi16 Piston Liners, Turbo Technics T25 Hybrid Turbo inc 360 Roller bearing, MegaSquirt-II v3.57 Mapable ECU, BMW Mini Cooper Injectors, Cosworth 4x4 Turbo Intercooler. This engine has been running fine at 1bar for some time now, When the engine was striped down and we found the failed piston ring, we had a very close look over the top of the pistons and the head to see if there was any signs of detonation none where found, all of the other rings where still fine. You say about going for Forged Pistons all the web sites I have found so far are looking for 500+ for a full set of Forged Pistons, This is out of our price range at this point in time, If you are able to supply a full set of Forged Pistons for a better price then this we might have to think long and hard about it. But at this point in time we were just going to stick with our turbo technics machined pistons and fit uprated piston rings. With my current engine setup what would you say my max safe boost should be? Best Regards.
Answer: Hi.. I doubt we could better that price by much for a custom piston. You could consider Total Seal rings? they use a different type of construction altogether. they are available from Performance Unlimited. With the larger intercooler and slightly lower compresssion I would have said 1.2 bar should be ok? Of course safe boost is relative to other factors as well!

Question: thanks for that didnt realise it would matter on them i know the 92 rule about carbs and cats before 1992 cant afford throttle bodys mate might just got for a pre 92 car had turbo cars and v6s and 6 cylinders just wanted to give carbs a go. thanks mate...
Answer: We've seen a number of cars on bike carbs, and they can perform well, although it's worth bearing in mind they were designed for a much smaller and more high revving engine, so can't meet all the requirements all the time.

Answer: Hi Mark - first thing, are you aware that you will never pass an MOT test with that set up? The emissions are a big issue!

Question: Dear, Alan Jeffery. I am looking for some advise regarding piston rings, I own a Peugeot 205 1.9 Turbo Technics, running 1bar of boost, I do take the car for track days, The oil and water are changed every 6 months. This engine was rebuild about 4 years ago, When it was rebuild we used OE piston rings from Peugeot, This year when on boost the oil pressure jumped up, in may we took the car off the road, and stripped down the engine. We found that the top compression ring on cly 4 had failed and shattered into many parts. This time was the engine has been rebuilt we are going to be running 1.5bar of boost, and we have decided that we are not going to use OE piston rings. So my question what piston rings would you recommend me to get, and can you supply them? Thanks for your time. Best Regards.
Answer: Hi.. I'd be looking at the compression ratio if I were you! You'd need forged pistons at that boost level. We could supply custom made JE items if you need them. If you sort that out properly, the rings shouldn't be an issue.
