Question: Hi Alan Looking to get my Sti RA remapped or possibly chipped how much extra bhp on average can you get out ?? Can you possibly send me some info re best way forward and cost etc ?? Cheers
Answer: Hi Ben- assuming yours is pre '99 your best bet is to fit an after market ECU on the basis that you can then really get at it. Best choice is the Simtek, as being the most up to date way of dealing with it. We supply fit and map them for 995 inc vat. an alternative is an Apexi Power FC, although they are getting incresingly difficult to get hold of, and the system still retains the mass air flow sensor, which would be a sideways, rather than a forward step. The bhp increase depends on other modifications, but you can be sure of increased torque and power up at least 30 bhp to start with.

Question: Hi Alan, i am looking at tuning my evo 6, i currently have a full 3\'\' exhaust including down pipe and de-cat, apexi induction kit, BOV, Blitz SBC i-d boost controller, Walbro 255l fuel pump and NGK irdium plugs. Would it be better for me to either buy a apexi power FC and get you to map it or should i just get you to ecu-tek my ecu. How much power can i expect and at what boost? I want to get as close to 400bhp as i can without doing a major engine stripdown ie with forged parts. Many Thanks Andy
Answer: Hi Andy - 400 bhp is a big ask with your present kit. For example we recently tested a Norris Designs Evo 6 set up with head work, cams, modified turbo and loads of other goodies that made 400 bhp exactly. I'd say without a replacement turbo you'd get to around 350 bhp with the decat using Ecutek at 1.5 bar, as that's the figures we've seen. After that it all gets pricey! Question: hi alan, what excactly is the benfit from having anti lag?!seen loads of vids with cars revving and flames and exhausts popping but what is it for, also notice it as a function on ecus?
Answer: The anti lag is a feature more often found on rally cars. The object is to be able to keep the turbo spinning up, so boost is always available. The system uses very aggressive ignition settings to promote a backfire. The benefit is instant response, the downside is the damaging effect on the turbo, and the incredible noise and rough running when it's on. most anti lag systems on road cars are mainly for effect, I guess we just love our toys! It can be useful for drag racing along with launch control.

Question: Hi Alan, I know it\'s hard to answer a noise related question without hearing it but my 94 import impreza WRX seems to be making a strange noise when at high revs. Its not a turbo whine it a bit lower, sounds more like a supercharger. Have noticed a slight drop in power, it also keeps making the noise when the dump valve has gone off so guessing its not a turbo thing. Could it be a power steering pump?? Any advice would be great! Will be trying to bring it down soon to get set up properly! Thanks Gareth
Answer: Hi Gareth_ As you say, we'll need to hear it! Please drop it in any time if you'd like to. Possibility is a leaky dump valve, but best get it checked.
