Question: Hi Alan,Dad said I should ask you, problem with Golf.Engine misses on light throttle, also cuts out briefly,then comes on fine. Any ideas? Thanks Scott.
Answer: I have seen the odd Golf where the wires inside the distributor come adrift, then short out when the vac advance pulls on the baseplate. Of course, yours might not be that variety, but it's a good place to start.

Question: hi i have A 1992 2L DOHC GT. THE CAR SEEM TO JUDDER AROUND THE 1500-2000RPM AREA AT HALF THROTTLE, BUT AT FULL IT SOUNDS AS IF IT IS FIGHTING TO PICKUP ALTHOUGH IT DOES JUST IS SLOW. THIS IS INTERMITANT, BUT MORE THAN NONE. I HAVE CHANGED DIZZY CAP, HT LEADS, SPARK PLUGS,ROTOR ARM. I HAVE ALSO CHANGED FUEL FILTER, AND USEDS INJECTOR CLEANER. THANKS ARRON.
Answer: Common problem with these is the throttle pot. most tuners should be able to plug in and pick that one up.

Question: hi i have a toyota starlet turbo it has had a couple of things done to it like induction kit bigger intercooler cat back exhaust adjustable dump valve is there much else i can do to it the lad i got it from said it is about 155 bhp it also feels like the turbo comes in late at about 5000 rpm is this right thanks ben
Answer: Hi Ben- Great little car you got there, we love them. Bags of potential! Your best bet is to have a dyno session and go from there. Hopefully, you'll find a Dyno Dynamics dyno in your area, as they can graph up power, torque, boost and AFR so you'll know where you are.

Question: Merc 190E 2.5 16 v - Hello,Alan. Wonder if you can help. Please advise on what you can do on above vehicle after a tune up/rolling road session. It runs Bosch KE injection plus electronic ign.contol(EZL),non cat(RUF)204BHP @ 6750RPM/177 LB.FT @ 5-5500RPM,max rev\'s 7000 - it suffers from lack of torque.Would a SUPERCHIP make any real difference or should I look at Throttle bodies,Turbo etc? Answer: You can't chip that one! there may be other ways of getting at the ignition, such as an Icon, but I doubt you'd gain much without doing a lot more work. If you need torque, you won't get it by conventional normally aspirated tuning, which usually entails getting more rpm by shifting the cam timing emphasis. I don't know if it's possible to overbore these engines. You can't beat capacity! Fitting a turbo would be a major deal, and hard to recommend on what is a classic car these days.

Question: Sorry Alan One last questions, then I will stop harrasing you.. you said \"Personally, I\'d go for the Simtek first. When you then fit the front mount and air filter, you can take advantage of the situation right away, by being able to dial in the correct tuning.\" Will it not need a re-map when the front mout & induction kit is fit or will the SIMTEK adjust for it automatically? I am based it Kent and would prefer you to do the tuning work in due course, but was unsure about what is actually involved - can you give me a price breakdown please for it all done and just for the SIMTEK if it is OK for me to fit the other bits later without a re-map - or could i fit the bits before i come down? Answer: We could fit and map the Simtek for 995 all in. When you have fitted the front mount and air filter we could map it again. We would charge around 900 to supply and fit the front mount for you, if you'd like to do it all at once. The alternative is to fit your front mount then drive down to get the Simtek fitted. When I suggested the Simtek should come first, I didn't factor in your distance from us, as I didn't know that! The only thing you wouldn't be able to get away with re the drive down, is if you fitted new injectors as well, which require immediate re scaling. Most other mods will be fine if you are just poodling down to us on the Motorway.
