Question: Thanks for the advice Alan Sounds like a front mount would be a very good idea then - however I believe I will need to change the air filter too if I go for a front mount intercooler - is the std MY95 JDM ECU going to cope with both those change plus the non std back exhaust or will it be over doing things or causing other problems? cheers Andy
Answer: Personally, I'd go for the Simtek first. When you then fit the front mount and air filter, you can take advantage of the situation right away, by being able to dial in the correct tuning.

Question: Hi, would like some info about havibg a fast road set up on my VTR, i want it lowered slightly and the cambers adjusted, and would i need springs? sorry dont know that much about the car as yet, what type of prices am i looking at also?? Many Thanks
Answer: Hi Dan. We don't actually do these, as I can't bring myself to get involved in lowering those blasted torsion bars on the back. My own view is I wouldn't lower it anyway. I'd go for a decent set of shocks and poly bushes. With good tyres, the handling will get better rather than worse!

Question: Hi Alan Thanks for the help - sorry for all the questions - it is my 1st Scooby & I am on a steep learning curve!! - I like the idea of the ECU - will have to fit in a trip to see you and AMS at some stage - maybe next summer and make it a short break too I think I will put up with the noisy exhaust on the basis I will lose when I build the Murtaya.. In the shorter term, I am concerned more with reliabilty - would either and oil cooler and/or front mount intercooler be of any help keeping things cooler or would they cause me other problems? I have heard a lot of people commenting about Imprezas that the no 3 cylinder by the turbo can be prone to overheating? the two side vents on my bonnet appear to be blocked, is this normal or should they be open or are they just decorative? Answer: Hi Andy- We'll look forward to seeing you! I'd say a front mount is the most important tweak you can do, as charge temp is the biggest problem faced by Imprezas. The Simtek ECU monitors charge temp via a sensor, and corrects accordingly. Every engine has an issue somewhere if you push it! I think you'll find air can pass through the vents, assuming they are the standard variety.

Question: Hi Alan and Martyn, You fitted some headers and did a remap(my05wrx)for me a few months ago. I am very happy with the work and the performance. However!!!!I would like to get close(r) to 300bhp (currently 285bhp/270ftlb). I was looking at the RCMS induction kit. I am also looking at uprating the TMIC, to an Sti or the one on flat4online. What are your thoughts????? Thanks for your time. Dan
Answer: Hi Dan. Our feeling is, if you're keen to move onwards, then a front mount can't be beaten! I can understand if you wish to retain the top mount, but charge temp is always an issue with these cars. a bigger top mount is better than nothing of course. If you go for the front mount, then you'd have to replace the air filter anyway of course. We'd be happy to quote for the parts and labour. Please don't hesitate to call myself or Martyn to discuss all this!

Question: hi alan. i hav a 2002 ford fiesta 1.8 TD. there is grey oily stuff in my water expansion tank, but no water in my oil, what could this be? thanx alot, allen.
Answer: Possible cracked head. The oil pressure is higher than the water pressure, and would be more likely to leak that way if it's cracked. I'd just keep an eye on it for a bit, as you may get away with it for a while.
