Question: I have a problem with my car is using to much fuel. I am not smelling it or losing it. I can put a full tank of fuel in on Sat and by the Tues the red light is back on. I have changed the exhaust and lambda sensor. I have even had it serviced can you please help me to find the problem. I await your reply.
Answer: Rover 623- Basic principles here! The engine management system is designed to provide the correct fuelling. Fuel is injected relative to load and temperature requirements. It is a finite quantity, and won't vary very much, assuming there is nothing wrong with the car. Best bet is to have an emissions test done, preferably on a rolling road, which is precisely what these things are for. Bear in mind the mixture levels won't help if you run around everywhere with your foot flat to the floor!

Question: Hello I have a problem with my car, it\'s a 88 f plate 205, it cranks over fine but won\'t start for age\'s, then after it has started it will start easily after unless left for 15 minutes or more, then the problem starts again, hot or cold makes no difference. I have changed everything, ECU, AFM, Dizzy, Dizzy cap plugs and leads, coil, fuel pump, throttle housing, engine temp sensor etc etc but still no better. The mixture is set fine and it drives through the range really well, with no hesitation etc... I suspect a fuel problem, with it returning to the tank after a while, is there a non return valve on these cars, any help would be good. Also do you think a rolling road tune would sort it with regard to tick over and idle etc (the usual erratic thing with these), if so how much would it cost and where are you based. Answer: Hello Andy - A rolling road session has to a good thing, as it can eliminate the usual mixture maladies. We are based in Plymouth! I did once come across one that had a faulty ignition amplifier, and that one had bad start issues. Best get the tuning checked, then start from there.

Question: i am mechanic...and also my best mate is a master tech at his garage and there is a white sludge/gunk substance in the oil filler cap... and i will also like to point out that i dont use it very often so could it be condensation??? Alan also would it be possible to swap email address so i can ask you advise personally
Answer: Hi Anthony- My email is on the site, although I only usually swop addresses with Females! Oil cap sludge isn't really an issue, unless it's accompanied by milky engine oil in the sump!

Question: hi Alan, thanks for your advise on exhaust matter I would like to ask you if it is possible to send you my ECU for reprograme with a matching good exhaust without catalizers for better flow and the nessecary parts to gain around 50 bhp extra and some extra torque as well these parts has to be deliverd by post to me in Malta please if it is possible can you tell me how much it will cost me. My main concern is that there will be no harm to the engine. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON.
Answer: HI.. Sorry, but the Subaru can only be re-mapped via the serial port in the car, and would require live mapping to get it all sorted properly.

Question: hi alan, what performance mods do you suggest for my nissan 200sx 1.8 turbo, k&n, chip etc ? how much to fit a chip and set up ? cheers, matt
Answer: Hi Matt - Chip issue is easy to deal with. We fit a Superchip and Turbosmart valve, and set the boost for 1 bar. We are accustomed to seeing a 35 to 40 bhp increase, with loads of extra torque out of these. I'm not so sure about induction kits, maybe it would be a good idea to fit the chip first, then test on the rolling road to see if the filter would help or not. some MAF sensors hate induction kits, and that's a fact! We charge ?450 inc vat for the chip and rolling road set up, and ?60 plus vat for the valve.
