Question: Alan, I have a 1994 Astra the engine (C14SE) blew up (#1 conrod left the engine) I have now removed the engine from the car. I am looking at buying a C16SE to replace the old unit, I know the engines are identical (apart from the difference in displacement) and I thought they even used the same head (I have a piper fast road cam in the C14SE head) I assume I would need to change the gear box for which I need to check the Haynes manual, and the chip, but would not need to do any electrical work. Could you advise if I would need to change the drive shafts, suspension struts, etc. If I were to buy an old C16SE could you quote to rebuild and polish the head (in order to get the piper cam working properly) other than doing this I am considering buying a 2.0 Sport but my car is my pride and joy so just weighing up the options. Answer: Hi Mathew. If the blocks are identical, there is no reason to change the gearbox, engine mounts, or anything else attached to it. I'm not certain about the heads, as I feel there may be issues to do with manifolding, especially on the inlet side. Try Regal Racing, who have a done a lot of these conversions, and can supply most of the parts needed from stock. Be aware you will have management issues if you try to run the 1.6 engine on the 1.4 system.

Answer: Hi.. I would say you wouldn't have to change anything, other than maybe a higher rated organic clutch, but only if you find you need one due to slippage.

Answer: Hi.. that's the best bit of turbo tuning! no MOT worries, as you can stick with the standard cam profile.

Question: Hello! I have just bought a 306 S16 - 2.0 16V DOHC.. And I found a reciept saying my car has been super-chipped by you about 3 years ago.. The car is sounding a bit rough now and I would love you to try and sort it out.? What would it cost me (roughly) to replace a noisy Hydralic lifter, a new idle valve, fit a gti-6 inlet manifold and give it a tune again..? What sort of power (form the 155BHP standard) could I expect?(again - roughly) Thank You :-)
Answer: Hi..I'd start with a check over first, to see where we need to go. It's hard to pick out one lifter over the noise of the others.. you may have to change the lot. Best bring it in, and let me listen to it, and maybe do a compression test?

Answer: Hi.. There is a kit available, I'd say around ?3000 fitted. Expect around 30 bhp extra, with an equal amount added to torque.
