Question: My WRX engine is making an odd noise which ive been told means a big end has gone. Could you give me a price to either repair the engine i have or supply and fit a new one?
Answer: Hello Nick- It depends what exactly has to be done! My inclination is to shy away from second hand engines, or trying to do it on the cheap, as there is always a penalty to pay somewhere. It comes to around ?2500 with a new crank, using all genuine Subaru parts. That includes labour and VAT, tow it in and drive it away. Using JE forged pistons with a re bore to first oversize adds another ?500. We have the advantage of our own machine shop so everything is all done on site.We have a great deal of experience with these!

Answer: If it's at idle, try cleaning the throttle body and idle valve out with aerosol carb cleaner. It's often an miracle cure!

Question: Hi Alan, I\'ve asked a similar question of you before, but after reading LOTS on the cliosport.net I wanted to ask you some more details if you don\'t mind? From what I\'ve read the Pipercross Viper Induction Kit is a good way of seeing reliable gains on a Clio 172 (2003), how much would you charge to supply and fit? Also, do you provide custom remaps for cars or just the standard Superchips replacament ECU? Anything similar to the SMT6 piggyback chip for example? Thanks very much for your time
Answer: Hello Ian - Pipercross costs around ?220 with another ?35 plus vat to fit. the beauty is in the detail with these, and we take time to fit them properly. My feeling is that from the standard eprom, you won't need much in the way of changes to get where you want to go. There is only a small window of opportunity, and the Superchip exploits it very well with these. We've seen 10 bhp from an air filter and chip on our own rolling road, which is a very good gain for a normally aspirated car. Personally, I'd only go for a piggy back if you've changed a major characteristic, such as cam profile. I wouldn't recommend that course of action either! the Renault engine will quickly lack torque with too much overlap.

Question: Hi Alan, I asked about my car having a flat spot over 3,000 rpm you suggested the MAF but this model doesn\'t have one. I hooked it up to the laptop again to look at the ecu readings and the air inlet temp was reading around 60\'C, this seems high as I had only just turned the engine on could it be causing the problem? Thanks again.
Answer: I've lost your original question! so I'm not going to be able to answer that one. Knowing what sort of car we are talking about would be handy, but in general terms, most ECU's refer to air temp sensors, but won't trim for them very much. If it's reading incorrectly, just replace it, and see what happens!

Answer: We often do both, depending on the compression ratio required. for 8 to 1, allowing up to 1 bar boost safely, you need a 50cc chamber, with a slight dish in the piston. We can carry out this work if you need it.
