Question: hi alan, my escort rs turbo has been not run since october, i have finaly got around to getting it going, i have replaced the turbo so i'm trying to prime the oil feed pipe but there doesnt seem to be any oil pumping through, the pipe isnt blocked, the oil light doesnt go out when i am cranking the engine, could the oil pump need priming? how do i do this?
Answer: You shouldn't have to prime it as such. You could try removing the plugs, to give it a good spin over first. These have been known to suffer from breather gunk clogging up the oil pick up in the sump.

Question: Hi Alan, I need some advice. I have a Toyota Supra 3.0l Single turbo (7M GTE Engine). I have worked on the car since it had blown its head gasket many months ago. I have replaced the Head gasket with a metal one and i am doing some mods on it. I really want to know what your view is on changing the cam shafts for more performance ? is it worth me doing that and if it is worth me doing that what do i need and where can i get it from. Please Advise Paul
Answer: Hi.. I'm evry reluctant to recommend changing cams with turbos. Unless they are very well designed, the effect is usually to push the rev band up, resulting in more lag. The set up you have can be much improved with a Superchip board and de cat downpipe.

Question: I have just bought a turbo lump from a Rover 820Ti for my 95 Rover 220 Coupe (nasp) (Engine, Gearbox, ECU, loom, Turbo & Downpipe). I was planning to cut and weld the 820Ti down pipe to fit my existing exhaust system, will the increased back pressure cause any problems?
Answer: I doubt it, to be honest. there is a merit in leaving a little back pressure, even on a turbo system. Most after market systems would be fine for that purpose.

Question: Hi Alan Great website!!! I have a MK Indy kitcar with a 1.6 16v ecotec engine fitted from a 1998 Vectra it is fitted with the original ecu and injection system and wiring as fitted to the vectra i am looking to tune this engine, from what i have learnt it is very tunable unit however very restricted in the inlet area Do i convert to the latest trend which is motorbike carbs or would i be better fitting 40/45 DCOE Webbers if so which? Any advice would be great Thanks Mick
Answer: Hi.. Motorbike carbs would be ok, as long as you can find someone to set them up. With a 1.6, you could easily over do it, so don't go for carbs that are oversized. Bear in mind that bike engines rev much higher. 40 dcoes would be good with 30 mm chokes.

Question: hi alan, I've got a 1992 legacy turbo which i use every day and the odd track day, its standard apart from a k&n panel filter, a bleed valve and i knocked the cat out, its running 12psi, will any of this damage the engine ? it goes well and no problems. cheers matt. (rx7 v8)
Answer: That should be fine, in fact up to 14 psi should also be ok, assuming you have no faults. Don't forget to feed it nothing but 97 octane fuel or better.
