Question: Hi Alan, I own a clio 1.8 16v and was thinking about getting a power boost valve for it, it already has a K&N filter, chipped ECU and a de-cat exhaust. Would fitting a PBV followed by a setup on your rolling road make much difference? Or would the chip have already maximised the performance fuelling wise?
Answer: Hi.. A PBV is merely an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. If your car suffers from inadequate fuelling under load, then it will help. If it doesn't it won't! Only one way to find out I guess.

Question: Lambda sensor..Output does not swing full range. Sensor replaced. Same result. Hence management light ON. Wiring checked out ok. What else to check?
Answer: If the signal wire voltage is high, say .9v then the mixture is rich for another reason. If the voltage is low, say.1v then the mixture is lean for another reason ( not the lambda's fault ) If it sits around the middle and won't move up or down, then it's a duff lambda.

Question: Hi alan, i have a problem with my nova. From cold it is difficult to get the auto choke to kick in to make the car tick over. Then at the other end of the scale when the engine is warm i can be driving up the m-way at 70mph take my foot of the accelerator then apply it again and there is a pause. At this point there is no power and the car has been known to die altogether! Can u help as no mechanic seems to be able to!?! Also is a 0-60 time of 8.5 secs normal for my car as the book quotes 12secs?
Answer: Hi.. You need to check to see that the choke is actually working. The flap should be fully over when you've depressed the throttle from cold, and the fast idle should then operate. It takes a skilled mechanic to deal with these little things! I'd guess your car has a K and N or similar filter? that might explain the Motorway problem, ie no carb heat from the exhaust. I have no comment on the 0-60 time, as it's a bit unlikely!

Question: I have an Omega which runs well except for when the engine warms up it idles at anything between 1500 and 2000 rpm. This used to go back to normal after a few seconds but it goes on almost indefinately now until i turn the engine off and then back on.
Answer: Check for air leaks, also possible sticky idle valve, I'd start by cleaning the throttle body out with carb cleaner. Somebody well meaning but ill informed might have attempted to adjust the throttle stop. It's a factory setting, and shouldn't be fiddled with. I've seen loads of them where people have tried to adjust the idle speed. You can't! If everything else fails, slowly back off the throttle stop screw and see what happens.
