Question: Concerning tuning the fuelling of a TD what would you reccommend?
Answer: I know Van Aaken Developments specialise in the older style diesel pump systems, apart from that, you'd need someone else who knows how to do it!

Question: I have a powertek valve to fit to my Pug 306 TD. Its a two source valve requiring a boost source and the wastegate actuator, which hoses would these be?
Answer: It's just one hose, connecting the turbo compressor housing to the wastegate actuator. You bisect the hose, and install the valve. Be aware that diesel tuning is far more about fuelling than boost, so don't overdo it!

Question: Hello Alan, i own a 1978 Mk1 vauxhall cavalier coupe GLS. since the day i bought it i've dreamed of putting a V8 motor under the bonnet. i've spoken to many folk (namely the great blokes from the Manta V8 register who have all gone rover) who love the rover V8 from the SD1 vitesse,land/range rover etc... and a few (a local engineer for one)who rate the Chevy small block V8 over the rover. obviously the rover lump is lighter in weight but iv heard the chevy is more tuneable to the extreme. final power output will be limited by the fact that im 24 yrs old and dont want to wait 'till im 60 to insure it!! i assume you've had experience of both of these iconic powerplants in your time and with that in mind do you have any advice on which would be the better choice for me to fit? British beef or Yank tank muscle? please help!!many thanks, nice site by the way. James.
Answer: Hello James- there really isn't much in it! The Rover engine has become less plentiful over the years, and the 350 small block Chevy is the most common engine in the World. With alloy heads, it's not even that heavy. The parts are cheap and plentiful, and the engine is unbreakable if properly put together. We are building a stroked version of one using all steel components as we speak, and not for a great deal of money. Check the insurance implications before you attempt anything!

Question: I have an st24 which seems to have a problem starting in the mornings. The car is in the garage overnight, and sometimes when out and the engine is cold I still have problems. The engine turns but will not start,plenty of battery power, the way I need to start the car is to keep the throttle pedal down when turning the key.Sometimes it starts straight away but sometimes takes quite along time. When it does eventully start, I get alot of smoke coming from the exhaust, which is a browny-white colour and quite alot. When I drive of the smoke disapears. This does not happen all the time. I know that when at idle the car does smoke a bit. The car has done only 52,000 miles and has been serviced at Fords all its life, since 1999. Can you help me on this question? Thank You. John.......
Answer: Hello John - It's unusual to have any problem starting one of those! I'd start by having the mixture checked, in case it's rich for a specific reason. The dark smoke would normally indicate a rich mixture, as does the need for throttle on start up. In most cases, a rich mixture would cause more trouble from hot of course. If it's burning oil, you have a problem, as you can't buy components for those engines.

Answer: It's trying to tell you there is a management fault! Try the main dealer, or diesel specialist.
