Question: I am intending to tune a Fiat Brava HSX, do you have any ideas and can you quote for certain work. I intend it for race track use and road and I do intend to upgrade the brakes and suspension.
Answer: There are a few specialists which may be a better source of info on this project. You can't beat specialist knowledge when it comes to building a racing car. I used to race the MG Midget, and built up a big store of good information over the years, but of course it only applies to Midgets ! There is a company called Italtune who may help you, also you could try the series organiser for the championship you intend to race in.

Question: Would an intercooler work better, I can get the water injection system from Trev & Ralph at Noz wizard in Doncaster they supplied my nitrous and always give a thorough check every time. I've had an E46 M3 bumper fitted from PSG and theres plenty of room behind the mesh grill. Can you give me a price on an intercooler. My garage at home .is like the sahara desert when I have been out for a drive. The subaru bonnet vents help a lot though.
Answer: The water injection idea falls in a slightly different area to an intercooler. The object of the exercise is to provide a cooler charge temperature, which promotes a better fill rate, and less chance of detonation. An intercooler has the advantage of being there working all the time, and doesn't require any maintenance. I would have to see the layout of your blower installation to see which would be the best way around it. From our large stock of different intercooler types, I could come up with something.

Question: Dear Alan ,thanks for the quick reply, I will try to find a decent rolling road near me and see if they can sort it out.By the way I forgot to tell you I have 120BHP extra nitrous on tap,had it for over 18 months no problems at all . Using a cooler plug anyway Bosch FR 56 volvo T5 uses the same. Got it on progressive controller so not all of it comes in at once. May get water injection next to keep it cool what do you think.
Answer: Nitrous ?...I used to use it on a hillclimb car twenty years ago, very effective for competition, but I've found it a bit silly on the road. Just as you are beginning to enjoy yourself, the damn bottle runs out ! Water injection is OK, as long as you have a properly installed and monitored system. You could try the Rally Car method and spray it on your intercooler,if you have one. If you don't, give me a call !

Question: have an Eaton supercharger fitted to my BMW 318ti compact, M44 1.9 how can I up the boost pressure , Its set at 7.5 psi at the moment It has a AFPR which was set at 3.8, standard cars are 3.5 this can be adjusted to 8.0. I ve turned it up to about 4.2 like the power boost valve works at. Will changing the wheel on the charger make much difference. AFPR was turned up to 7.2 and roaded at 205bhp then someone told me I was just wasting fuel, bearing in mind it ups the fuel anyway as boost comes in.
Answer: You need to be running the correct mixture at all times. Unless you have some sort of enrichment device, the pressure reg. will compensate for boost, and the original management will have some leeway. The only way to be sure is to get it on a Rolling Road. A bit rich is OK, lean is not. I would want to see at least 5-6% CO at full load . Boost pressure is adjusted on a supercharger by controlling the speed, so unless you have some form of boost control on your blower, you need to make it spin faster with

Question: i have had a problem with my skoda 120 L5 since fitting a replacement weber carb. The car starts fine from cold but when the engine is warm/hot it takes about 15 to 20 seconds of the engine turning over before it comes to life followed by a strong smell of petrol. its also a bit lumpy on tick over, high fuel consumption, any ideas.
Answer: Sounds like a rich mixture...Possibly stuck choke, or high float level. Have you fitted an electric fuel pump ? the pressure could be too high. Check these things in that order !
